“Hakogurashi”is a term coined by Mizukawa. It refers to the leisurely enjoyment of creating idyllic miniature landscapes by arranging small houses, dolls, bridges, cars, and other scenic elements within shallow boxes or on paper. It evokes a sense of pastoral life and tranquility. Similar forms include miniature gardens, penjing, and bonsai.
